A Month of Community and Connection at the Life Centre
The past month has been an incredibly vibrant and full season at the Life Centre – filled with people, laughter, and learning.
True to our vision, it’s a place and space that is to be a home (a place of belonging, love, and acceptance), a harbour (a space to reflect, learn, and grow), and a hub (where like-minded individuals connect)—we’ve seen these values come to life in meaningful ways.
A home – a safe and welcoming space for people from all contexts to come together and encounter the living God.
A harbour –empowering individuals and groups to reflect, learn, and thrive.
A hub – connecting like-hearted individuals, fostering belonging and a sense of community.
Holiday Club: Joy, Play, and Safe Spaces
We had the joy of hosting an action-packed Holiday Club at CHS, welcoming dozens of children into a week filled with energy, creativity, fun, and friendship. The atmosphere was alive with laughter and movement—children engaging in crafts, songs, storytelling, and more.
But beyond the fun, what made the Holiday Club truly special was the team of leaders creating this wonderful environment. Our youth and teenagers formed part of the Holiday club leaders, and it was a joy to watch them serve and give so generously of their time with good humour despite being somewhat sleep deprived after a busy week. It was a place where every child could be themselves, make new friends, and learn in a space that encouraged curiosity and kindness.
The Table Café: A Space for Parents and Community
While the children played and learned, many parents found refuge in our community café, The Table Café, which offered more than just great coffee. It became a space to work remotely, catch up with friends, or simply take a breather.
Designed to be inclusive and family-friendly, the café also caters to our littlest visitors—with easy-access facilities and a jungle gym that keeps children entertained.
Shelter in the Storm: Practical Compassion
This past month also saw some severe wind and rain. In partnership with Ubomi Charitable Trust and U-turn, the Life Centre opened its doors in a different way creating a pop-up shelter that provided warmth, safety, and basic comforts for our unhoused neighbours.
This initiative is an example of our commitment to be a harbour in times of need and the transformative power collaboration, with U-turn co-ordinating the logistics of this shelter.
Weekends That Celebrate Life
The Life Centre doesn’t slow down on the weekends—in fact, it often feels like the celebrations only grow! Recently, we hosted a wedding celebration, filling the building with joy, music, and the shared love of family and friends.
We also welcomed the Kirstenhof Community Market, which returns on Saturday, 26th July. If you’ve never been, this market is not to be missed. The last event featured over 50 local vendors, offering an eclectic and exciting mix: freshly baked artisan breads and pastries, seasonal berries, homemade sauces, handcrafted goods, vintage clothing, thrifted jackets, and more. It’s a joyful expression of local creativity and entrepreneurship, with something for everyone.
Each Sunday we celebrate services filled with a diverse, multicultural, intergenerational church family.
A Place That Grows With You
Of course, the heartbeat of the Life Centre continues through the everyday rhythms brought by our regular tenants—organisations, practitioners, and small businesses that use the space throughout the week. From counselling services and community support initiatives to workshops and fitness classes, these partners enhance the Centre’s offerings and keep it alive with purpose.
As we look back over this past month, we feel deeply encouraged by the way the Life Centre is living out its mission—not just as a building, but as a living, breathing part of the community. Whether through joyful events, vital services, or simple daily connections, we continue to see the power of creating spaces that are welcoming, reflective, and connected.
And this is just the beginning.
We hope to see you soon—whether you’re popping in for a coffee, browsing the market, attending an event, or just looking for a place to be.
